“ Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” This scripture was sent around the day before to those involved in organizing and supporting the Brother Yun events. It proved to be true as the Lord did amazing things over the weekend of Nov. 13&14th. There was an atmosphere of expectancy in all of the meetings held at St. Saviour’s Church, Guildford and Holy Trinity, Aldershot. The Lord used this anointed man of God to preach the Gospel in a powerful way! It was standing room only and many responded to Brother Yun’s message. The presence of God was very evident in all of the services.
Born Liu Zhenying in 1958, Brother Yun travelled throughout China as part of the Chinese house church movement. These groups were persecuted by the authorities because of the Gospel they preached. Because of this the leaders became outcasts and were arrested and imprisoned whenever they were caught. On one occasion Brother Yun underwent a 74-day total hunger strike, but the authorities failed to break his spirit.
Brother Yun’s remarkable story is told in a book published in 2002 called “The Heavenly Man”. This title was given to him because on one occasion he refused to give his name when caught, shouting loudly “I am a heavenly man.” This was a warning that gave his friends the opportunity to escape arrest.
Yun was arrested several times by the Chinese authorities, tortured and held for many years until, in May 1997, he simply “walked out” of the Zhengzhou Maximum Security Prison, the only person ever to have escaped from this notorious establishment. He then managed to make his way secretly to Myanmar (Burma), and thence to the West. Brother Yun now travels around the world sharing the vision of the Chinese church to take the Gospel throughout China, Asia and the Middle East.
