This past weekend Flame International hosted eight of the next…

This past weekend Flame International hosted eight of the next generation of missionaries for training for an upcoming mission. The ‘Generation Y’ mission is a new project for Flame. Flame is running a mission for young people- reaching out to young people in Nzara, Sudan in August. Nzara is a town in the south western region of Sudan that has been hit hard by war in recent years. The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has launched raids and attacks on the people of Nzara from across the border in the Congo. There is a need for hope in the region and it is our prayer that we can bring the light of Christ and his healing power to the area. In addition to the ministry of Flame International, young people will engage the local youth in sports and crafts. Everyone is excited about this new mission!

Flame International ran two pastors conferences recently in Burundi- a…

Flame International ran two pastors conferences recently in Burundi- a small country bordering Rwanda. The Flame team saw the Lord change mind-sets, heal individuals and heal the land! Similar to its neighbour Rwanda, Burundi has seen its share of killing and tragedy. Many people are carrying burdens of anger, pain and hurt. It was such a blessing to see the Lord’s hand touch the people in the cities of Matana and Muyinga.

In Matana, a woman was miraculously healed of rheumatism and many were set free from anger! A leader forgave herself and was set free. A man cursed by his grandmother and mother was dramatically delivered of fear. Many were set free from witchcraft. Three key leaders said that the teaching from Flame had gone from their heads to their hearts and they had been significantly impacted and healed. Two of them said they will get the teaching into the Bible School and Theological Institute! Another man committed to cleansing the land around his church and home through prayer- where many people were killed in the past.

The team also had a wonderful time in Muyinga and they were delighted with the ease in which all the delegates accepted the teaching and ministry. Many of the delegates’ countenances had changed by the end of the conference. The team heard some excellent testimonies and it was clear that some very deep healing had taken place in their hearts and minds. This particular Flame team did not have a lot of ministry experience, yet they faithfully applied what they knew, and watched Jesus do some extraordinary healing!

The local Bishop was very happy with the conference and supportive of Flame International’s ministry. He has invited Flame to return again in the future!

“ Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the…

“ Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” This scripture was sent around the day before to those involved in organizing and supporting the Brother Yun events. It proved to be true as the Lord did amazing things over the weekend of Nov. 13&14th. There was an atmosphere of expectancy in all of the meetings held at St. Saviour’s Church, Guildford and Holy Trinity, Aldershot. The Lord used this anointed man of God to preach the Gospel in a powerful way! It was standing room only and many responded to Brother Yun’s message. The presence of God was very evident in all of the services.

Born Liu Zhenying in 1958, Brother Yun travelled throughout China as part of the Chinese house church movement. These groups were persecuted by the authorities because of the Gospel they preached. Because of this the leaders became outcasts and were arrested and imprisoned whenever they were caught. On one occasion Brother Yun underwent a 74-day total hunger strike, but the authorities failed to break his spirit.

Brother Yun’s remarkable story is told in a book published in 2002 called “The Heavenly Man”. This title was given to him because on one occasion he refused to give his name when caught, shouting loudly “I am a heavenly man.” This was a warning that gave his friends the opportunity to escape arrest.

Yun was arrested several times by the Chinese authorities, tortured and held for many years until, in May 1997, he simply “walked out” of the Zhengzhou Maximum Security Prison, the only person ever to have escaped from this notorious establishment. He then managed to make his way secretly to Myanmar (Burma), and thence to the West. Brother Yun now travels around the world sharing the vision of the Chinese church to take the Gospel throughout China, Asia and the Middle East.

Flame International had an extraordinary time with the military, where they spent 2 days teaching and praying with about 80 soldiers. Over half of them returned the next day and a man who had been paralysed down his left side had been partially healed. Another who had been unable to run had been healed and had run that morning with his troops. The Flame team pressed for more testimonies and the soldiers said that they had ALL been healed in some measure! There were also poignant stories of forgiveness as soldiers came to the cross to forgive. About 27 people in a village had been killed because a candidate at the recent election had lost and revenge was taken… the perpetrator was forgiven! Another had lost 2 children to the hands of Lord’s Resistance Army and he chose to forgive them. The stories were all real and the Lord helped people to forgive. One man stood up and said he could never forgive the Sudanese Government for the atrocities it had undertaken. May God bless him for his honesty and enable him to forgive one day.

The Flame team stands in awe of the Lord who brought healing spiritually, emotionally and physically to hundreds of civilian people in a remote area of South Sudan. The team arrived to be told by the Bishop that his people had lost hope due to the lack of action by the Sudanese Government and the constant killings by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). When Flame left there was hope, and a desire to press on towards the goal which is heavenwards!

Each day people testified to being healed and one man who had a very bad back did some press-ups as his testimony! Adam, a young man who had had a motorcycle accident, was crippled in his hip and knee and had to use a crutch. He was healed and he no longer uses his crutch! On the final day of the conference there was a real out-pouring of grief after a Flame team member had a word of knowledge about grief. As a result, the programme was changed to teach on grief. Many of the widows were finally able to grieve and they witnessed that their lives were transformed in the process. One lady was going to get out of her mourning clothes which was a miracle in itself!

The Flame team taught on forgiveness in four churches on the Sunday as well and then prayed with hundreds of people for healing afterwards. The Lord has touched so many people!

“I also give thanks to God for the work that…

“I also give thanks to God for the work that he is doing in Buye Diocese through the teachings that you have taught God’s people last March. Most of the delegates who have attended the conference have been transformed and are now committed to spread the teachings to others.
After the conference we held a meeting with the pastors who had attended the conference and I realized that they have been spiritually renewed by the teachings and healed through the prayers. As they testify, most of the delegates have managed to forgive people who did wrong to them, particularly during the time of war when family members were killed and materials destroyed or stolen.”

Flame International ran two healing and reconciliation conferences in Burundi for church leaders attended by over 100 delegates! There were powerful stories of God’s healing- people moving forward and leaving the horrible events of the past behind.

Flame International was invited to run a pastors conference in…

Flame International was invited to run a pastors conference in the Nuba Mountain region of Sudan, close to the North/South border. At the invitation of the Bishop, Flame taught over 70 Episcopal pastors about healing, forgiveness and reconciliation. It was a powerful time of healing for those present. At the end of each session there was a time of ministry where the pastors could receive Jesus’ healing into their lives. All those present had suffered due to the extreme violence that has taken place in the region over the years. The pastors will now be better able to minister Jesus’ hope and healing to their flocks, after receiving so much at the conference.

After the conference, Flame was invited to speak to the military stationed in the area. Upon arrival there were no soldiers in sight, but after waiting for a few hours, a cloud of dust could be seen in the distance. 700 SPLA soldiers were marching towards the team to hear the Gospel- some for the first time!

About 100 people gathered near the London Eye to join the ‘Save Sudan’ march on June 16th 2009. Several Sudanese were among those who walked across Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament.

The ‘Day of Prayer’ for Sudan followed a few days later. One supporter told us, “Our ‘sending’ church prayed enthusiastically…lots of positive comment…it re-inforced people’s support…the church continues to fund one pastor…and we hope our ‘plant’ church will support more of the pastor training in Rumbeck.”

Why don’t they include a ‘Warning: Speaking to Jan could…

Why don’t they include a ‘Warning: Speaking to Jan could change your life’ statement on the Flame literature?

Packed into a minibus in stifling heat, weaving left and right to avoid enormous potholes in the dirt road, surrounded by strangers from across the world and not at all confident about what was around the corner, I wondered if everyone that talks to Jan Ransom realises what they could be getting themselves in to!

I had only just arrived back from visiting a friend in Uganda when, together with my husband, daughter and her two children we went off to experience the New Wine summer conference for the first time. Arriving in Shepton Mallet I had no idea that I would be back in Uganda within just a few months. The conference was excellent; we loved the seminars and Bible studies but also took time to relax with church friends and to browse through the book store and mission stands in the market place. I was recovering from my trip nicely and trying to put thoughts of desperately wanting to go back to Uganda out of my mind and had decided that if it were to happen I would wait for God to arrange it.

And that’s when it happened.

An African poster on a small stand run by Flame International seemed to be calling me over and I couldn’t resist going to talk with the two ladies about their work. “We take teams of volunteers into Africa to facilitate trauma healing, forgiveness and reconciliation for post-conflict communities, along with opportunities for prayer and ministry.” Well I stood there agape for a while and finally managed to explain that I was a qualified psychiatric nurse and counsellor and that I had just returned from visiting the wife of a Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) pilot who had arranged for me to do some counselling for missionary wives in Uganda. “That’s funny,” they said “we work with MAF regularly and we’re going to Uganda for our next project.” The sense of our hearts burning together was tangible and it wasn’t long before Jan, Val and I were making plans for my joining the team in November. The project turned out to be much larger than I had realised with conferences, workshops and counselling as well as evangelism and prayer ministry for thousands with the local church providing intercessors and all arranged by Jan and Val at Flame International.

It’s hard to describe in these few words the scene that met the team on our first morning at the conference location in Aloi – hundreds of intercessors surrounded us as we got off the minibus, hugging us and shaking our hands with shouts of welcome before leading us off to march and dance around the conference site declaring the Lord’s praises!

That first day we learnt that nearly all of the attendees were internally displaced people (IDPs) and had suffered at the hands of the LRA, a brutal rebel group. Many had walked for days to be at the conference and wasted no time in asking for prayer after the teaching on trauma, forgiveness and healing: they came forward in their hundreds.

During the prayer and counselling times, the women were telling us their stories of having seen their husbands shot and having their children abducted and killed by the LRA. Their homes had been razed to the ground and they had to move into the IDP camps. It was strange to hear them ask for prayer to relieve headaches and stomach aches when really they were desperately traumatised. The whole team felt the pouring out of God’s compassion and we held them in our arms as we prayed for them.

One moment I will never forget was standing facing a sea of people that had stood for prayer with their beautiful faces turned upward with eyes closed and arms reaching up to the Lord. I could not stop the tears from running down my face.

Over the following days we saw God move in amazing ways with people released from the curses of witch doctors, healed physically and perhaps even more significantly forgiving those who had caused so much pain and trauma. Each of us on the Flame International team saw God for ourselves breaking into these people’s lives to set free, save, heal and transform. This was experiencing Jesus Christ performing the same works today as he did in His Earthly body.

I came home with something more than the renewed passion for Uganda that I might have expected: Planted within me was a new desire to tell other ‘older’ Christians that they are not too old to be called by God to mission. I can’t get over it – who would have thought that God would send a little housewife like me on a mission to Africa at my age!!! I realise now that far from sitting down and learning how to knit, I see God doing something new in my life and my husband has now been invited to Kampala so I am excited to see what the Lord has planned for us both.

So, thank you Flame International for making me part of the team, and thank you Lord for not being finished with me yet!

June McLellan
