Working in Unity
“It’s Kingdom!” Along with Flame’s mandate from Isaiah 61:1-3 to set the captives free is the commission to make disciples from Matthew 28:19-20. We work in partnership with people and organisations on the ground seeing God’s kingdom work grow as they are equipped and enabled to minister. It is about serving, working alongside, giving the glory to Jesus. It has never been about empire it is all about kingdom.
Psalm 133:1-3 states, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore.”
Working in unity is a choice, it is intentional, a conscious decision to prefer others, to serve in humility. We have the very great privilege of seeing the fruit of this reality. The Lord commands the blessing when we dwell in unity. In July, we ministered alongside our brothers and sisters from Ellel Blairmore at the Refuel conference in Scotland. The previous year we had a session where we had shared ministry in teaching and response, using the Flame venue as the base. This year we worked together for the whole event. Flame provided the venue and the teaching, with Peter Brokaar from Ellel speaking on Generational Influences for one session. This enabled Ellel to focus wholly on prayer ministry in their venue. In addition, by providing people to assist with Flame’s scheduled prayer ministry appointments this enabled us to double the number of people we were able to pray with. The Flame venue was often filled with people for the teaching, sometimes to overflowing with folks having to sit outside with the walls of the marquee rolled up. Ellel not only provided personnel but also chairs for people to use. The sight of our friends from Ellel running with chairs from their venue to the Flame venue to accommodate the crowd that had gathered to hear the teaching on the Jezebel spirit will stay with me for a long time!
The upshot of all of this is that both Ellel and Flame were able to reach more people by working together than we would have individually. In this unity the Lord commanded a blessing as we saw time and time again his hand upon us and the people we were ministering to. At one time, after speaking on the deception of new age, someone came forward for prayer but questioned the spiritual issues with acupuncture. My number 2 from Ellel said, “Well, I used to be an acupuncture practitioner” and then was able to go into detail as to the spiritual realities of this practice. My argument may not have convinced, but having the testimony of a practitioner made the difference. Of all the people this person could have gone to, he came to us. God’s hand of blessing on us was seen in similar ways time and time again. When we choose to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness then he adds more than we can imagine, his blessing. All for his glory, all for his kingdom!
